I wish I knew:

Gambling is a war of attrition - staying in the game and not going broke is more important than any single impressive win.

I wish I knew:

That the people who had been gambling professionally for years had valuable insights - even if I saw them making some basic mistakes here and there.

I wish I knew:

That bankroll management is as much an emotional equation as it is a mathematical equation.

The best sizing is the one that protects you from going broke at all costs - and allows you to come in the day after a losing session and make good decisions.

I wish I knew:

Comparing yourself to others will torpedo your career.

In gambling, someone is always posting a massive win or playing higher-stakes.

Remember people don't post their losses and they don't post when they go broke.

Focus on finding stability internally.

I wish I knew:

Helping others helps you as well.

I used to be so afraid of giving away information that I believed made me money.

First - you probably aren't the only one with this info.

Second - giving value helps you get value.

Build a community and contribute freely.

I wish I knew:

To get a mentor, you must learn how to learn on your own.

If someone is a few rungs ahead of you - do hours of work before asking for minutes of their time.

This will get you punching above your weight in networking.

I wish I knew:

I started in poker and thought that I was going to be staring down Phil Ivey in Bobby's Room by now.

But I found my biggest success in sports betting after taking a chance and making a pivot.

Focus on what you are doing - but make sure you are in the right vehicle.

I wish I knew:

Don't get obsessed with judging everything in terms of hourly.

  1. You can't achieve your peak hourly 24/7.
  2. Gambling is a high-contact mental sport, your mind needs time to heal.
  3. Friends and family don't want to be evaluated in terms of your hourly.

I wish I knew:

Monetary goals are not enough.

If your goals are solely monetary, you will become obsessed with the ups and downs.

Why do you want the money?

Now I want freedom - so if I lose money but still have freedom, it's easier to snap back.

I wish I knew:

Make sure to enjoy the learning process. There are many different ways to improve your earn including:

  • Math knowledge
  • Computer/ coding skills
  • Understanding psychology
  • Improving health/ fitness

Use gambling as an excuse to improve as a person.

I wish I knew:

The losing streaks will be so much worse than you can imagine starting off.

There will be so many periods where you feel like you are just clicking a "lose money" button.

Each one you go through makes you slightly better to handle the next - keep grinding.
